Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name for Winona Laura Hoowitz, birthed in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her for her hometown. Michel Horowitz' father was an author and editor, as were Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder's dad came from a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder as well as her entire family moved to Mendocino, California in the year 2000, when Ryder was only seven years old. There were no electric lights.
